Zu alt zum Arbeiten, zu jung zum Sterben, gerade richtig zum Reisen. ...........................................................................Too old to work, too young to die, just right to travel.
Today we visited Zakopane in Poland. It is a very busy tourist place. It is more known as a ski resort. The special thing about Zakopane is that this place has a unique style for building houses. They are many times out of wood and have very steep roofs. My picture shows a very modern kind of such a Zakopane house.
Today we visited Cracow. It was quite difficult since there were a lot of young people. They came here from all over the world for the «World Youth Day» on July 28. Pope Francis will be here and hold a mass with, someone told me 3 Million young people. The picture shows some of the young people dancing on the market square.
Today we visited the Wieliczka Salt Mine, which is located about 10 km from Cracow. It Is an UNESCO site and only open to visit. We walked about 2 hours through corridors, cambers and halls until 135 meters down into the ground. Upwards they transported us with an elevator. The picture shows one hall, which was transformed into a church. It is unique in the world. Everything, even the candleholders, are made out of salt.
On July 14 we traveled from Stettin along the Baltic See coast to Koszalin. Is rained and stromed the whole day. We only saw the light house in Rewal and nothing else.
On July 15 we traveled from Koszalin to Gdansk. The weather was better, but we didn't see anything special.
On July 16 we visited Gdansk. There was a tramway station just outside the campground. The tram brought us directly into the center of the town. Gdanks was very much destroied in the war, but was very nicely rebuild in the last years and they are still upgrading it.Gdansk is worth the trip. There are very much people, which lowers the fun a bid.
On July 11 we traveled from Dresden to Potsdam. On July 12 we visited the Sanssouci Park with the different castles. The main attraction is the Sansouci Castle. After this we visited the Duch Quarter, where we had dinner. Then we traveled to Berlin to take a round trip with bus Nr. 100. Since we know Berlin fairly well this was a nice thing to remember all the nice places. Unfortunalely the German Railways did some repair work on our S-Bahn track, with wich we wanted to go back to Potsdam. Therefore we had to take a regular train. This one had a delay of 20 minutes. Like this we missed the last bus from Potsdam train station to the camground. We had to take a Taxi instead.
Yesterday we read from the Saxon Switzerland National Park. I have already seen a lot of images from it, but didn't know that it is just 30 km outside Dresden. Therefore we decided to visit it. We bought a family ticket for € 19.-, which allowed us to us all means of transportation in the whole region of Dresden for a whole day. With busses and train we traveled to the Bastei, which is the main sight-seeing point in this park. To get there we had to walk over the world famous Bastei bridge. I took pictures from all directions. After this we traveled to Königsein. I read that there is a huge castle. It is very high above Königstein. We couldn't hardly see it and it was too late to walk up. Therefore we took an aperitif and took the train back to Dresden, where we had dinner. Then we went back to the campground with tram and bus.
On July 8 we traveled from Bamberg to Dresden and on July 9 we visited Dresden. This time we took the bus again. There is a bus station directly at the camp site. We traveled with a family card, with which we could travel the whole days with all means of public transportation in the whole city. For us the most important sight-seeing point is the Frauenkirche, which was rebuild between 2007 and 2014.
On July 6 we traveled from Augsburg to Bamberg. Here we put our RV on a camp site, which is located about 4 km outside the old town. On July 7 we taveled with our bikes to the old town and visited it on foot. Since we had some time, we rode our bikes about 7 km to the Seehof castle. Then back to Bamberg, where we had our dinner. And then we biked to the RV.
On July 4 we started our first trip with the RV. We call it the Poland trip, since the goal of the trip is Danzig in Poland. Today we drove to Augsburg in Germany. On July 5 we visited the old city of Augsburg. It is worth the trip. Unfortunately the town hall, to most important sightseeing spot, is under renovation. Therefore my picture shows a part of the Monastery of the Franciscan Nuns of Maria Stern. We had our dinner outside on the the backside of the town hall and saw this picture in the evening sun.
