Zu alt zum Arbeiten, zu jung zum Sterben, gerade richtig zum Reisen. ...........................................................................Too old to work, too young to die, just right to travel.
Today we traveled from Senhora de Luz to Albufeira (82 km). On the way we visited the cliffs at Portimão and the castle of Silves. The picture shows the city of Silves. At the lower end of the picture is the white Roman bridge to see. The castle on the hill was build by the Moors around the year 1000.
Today we traveled from Vila Nova de Milfontes to Senhora da Luz (100 km). On the way we visited the Capo de Sao Vicente. Here we reached the farthest point from home on this trip. All we do now brings us closer to home. If we would go the shortest way is would be 2500 km to home. The picture shows the Capo de Sao Vicente.
Today we traveled from Cascais to Marfa, then to Sintra and finally to Lisbon. In Manfra we visited the National Palace. The headstone for this palace was put on 17. November 1717. Therefore they start today to celebrate the 300 years of this palace. In Sintra we visited the Palace of Montserrat. The picture shows the National Palace of Mafra.
Today we traveled from Nazaré to Cascais (146 km). On the way we visited the medieval city of Óbidos. It is a small but totally preserved city. The city wall is fully intact. I could walk on it around the city. And there is a castle and a very long aqueduct from the year 1570. The picture was made from the city wall.
Today we traveled from Porto along the Douro river to Lamego (130 km). The weather was quite bad and the road very winding. We wanted to see where the grapes for the Port wine are growing. But we did reach these places yet. The picture shows a lock at the Douro river. A tourist ship just enters the lock. The level difference was about 32 meters. I've never seen such a big lock before.
Today we traveled from Santiago de Compostela in Spain to a place near Porto in Portugal (220 km). On the way we stopped in Braga, the third largest city in Portugal. Here we visited another pilgrim church. It's name is Bom Jesus (Good Jesus). It has a nice stairway, where pilgrims climb up to the church.
Today we stayed in Santiago de Compostela and visited the city. The main sightseeing point the cathedral is in renovation and therefore I could not make a nice picture of it. The picture I attach here is made in the courtyard of an old university building. The staute shows Alonso III de Fonseca. He was the founder of the university in Santiago de Compostela in the year 1507.
Today we traveled from Zarautz back to San Sebastian (Donostia) (20 km) and then to Castro Urdiales near Bilbao (135 km). In the afternoon we visited San Sebastian, which has two nice beaches and two nice hills. On my picture you see the La Concha Beach, where people are still swimming and Mount Urgull. In between lays the old town of San Sebastian.
On November 1 we stayed on the camp ground to do administrative things.
On November 2 we traveled from Pamplona to Zarautz (123 km). On the way we visited the cities of Pamplona and Hondarribia. The picture shows the town hall of Pamplona. Pamplona is known for the bulls running through the town in July.
