Zu alt zum Arbeiten, zu jung zum Sterben, gerade richtig zum Reisen. ...........................................................................Too old to work, too young to die, just right to travel.
Today we traveled to the Santa Elena Canyon in the Big Bend National Park (69 km). There were many stops on the way to see landscapes and mountains. In the end, we hiked into the Santa Elena Canyon. The picture shows it. The Rio Grande is the border between the USA and Mexico. The USA is to the right and Mexico to the left of the river. I'm glad that I was here before President Trump builds the wall between the two countries.
Today we traveled from Las Cruces In New Mexico to Van Horn in Texas (269 km). Short after the border to Texas, we crossed the town of El Paso. There was a lot of traffic. The picture shows some highways which are placed over each other. Then we drove a long time through flatlands. Some miles before Van Horn the land started to be hilly.
Today we went shopping in Las Cruces and visited the historic village of Mesilla (9 km). The picture shows one of the historic buildings. It is built in the Adobe style. Mesilla was a Mexican village until 1854. Then the USA bought land from Mexico. This created the border between the USA and Mexico which exists still today.
Today we stayed at the campground in Elephant Butte State Park. We need new tires for our motorhome. The local tire dealer couldn't supply tires with the right measures. Therefore we searched on the internet for tires the whole day. I already thought we have to import them from Europe. But in the end, we were successful and found the right tires and did order them. Today was cloudy weather. It even rained in the evening. The picture shows a situation during the rainy and stormy time this evening.
Today we stayed at the Elephant Butte State Park. We are now in New Mexico. I have very good memories of this state since I received the TAGA Award in Albuquerque two years ago. After this, we traveled for 10 days through New Mexico and we were then here in Elephant Butte too. The picture shows the sunset seen from the campground this evening.
Today we traveled from Springerville in Arizona to Elephant Butte Lake in New Mexico (357 km). Here we met Stefan and Edith again. On the way, we visited the «Very Large Array» in San Agustin. Here are 27 large telescopes with a diameter of 25 meters build up to measure distances to planets, stars and on earth with interferometry. My picture shows the 4 telescopes which are nearest to the road. The others are until 36 km away.
Today we stayed at Grand Canyon South Rim. In the afternoon I hiked down the Bright Angel Trail into the Grand Canyon. I went only 2.4 km and 340 meters in elevation down. This took me 40 minutes down, 30 minutes rest and one hour to go back up. I had a lot of respect to do this hike. I read a lot about people who died at hiking Grand Canyon. Now I know that I can do it. Next time I hike deeper down. I took the picture there where I returned.
Today we traveled from Page to Grand Canyon South Rim (233 km). On the way, we visited the Glen Canyon Dam, did some shopping in Page, visited the Horseshoe Bend again and visited the gorge of the Little Colorado River. The picture shows the Glen Canyon Dam, a piece of Lake Powell and the surroundings.
Today we stayed another day in Page. We went to visit the Waterhole Canyon. Most people go to visit the famous Antelope Canyon. We did this 5 years ago. The Waterhole Canyon is not very known and therefore almost no people are there. The fun part is to go to a Navajo Administration Office to buy a permit to visit this canyon. It was nice to walk and climb in this canyon. The picture shows a scene from this canyon.
Today we traveled from Cape Royal Point at the Grand Canyon North Rim to Page (237 km). Since we did overnight at the Cape Royal Point I got up early to experience the sunrise at the Grand Canyon. The attached picture is the last one of this sunrise series. I think the Grand Canyon is more attractive when there is light in it.
Today we traveled from Kanab In Utah to Cape Royal Point at the North Rim of Grand Canyon in Arizona (171 km). On the way, we visited the Visitor Center of the North Rim and some other overlooks. Here at Cape Royal Point we watched the sunset and stayed overnight. The picture was taken in the later afternoon at Cape Royal Point. It shows a side valley of the Grand Canyon.
Today we traveled from Hurricane to Kanab in Utah (149 km). We drove on the scenic Zion-Mount Carmel Highway. The photo is taken where the road is still in the Zion National Park. Some miles before Kanab we went to visit the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. When we were here 5 years ago we found the sand is really pink, but this time it was more brownish. And I did it again. I drove to close to the sand dunes and got stuck in soft sand. Luckily a guy was there with a 4x4 pickup who towed us out. Thanks a lot.
Today we stayed at the campground in Hurricane. The insurance for our motorhome runs out. We closed a contract in Europe for a half a year. Now we had to renew it. Since the contract we have is very expensive we found another insurance for a much better price. To close the contract we needed some time. The picture is from our trip of yesterday to the Zion National Park. At the end of the valley is a trail along the river where you have to wade in the water. Many people like to do this. They even rent special shoes and trousers for that.
Today we celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary with visiting the Zion National Park. To do this, we drove from Vergin to Springdale. From here a shuttle service brought us into the Zion National Park. We stopped at all 9 stations and did some short hikes. The picture shows a landscape in the Zion National Park. It is more or less one valley with nice rocks on both sides and the Virgin River in between. In the evening we drove to Hurricane since the RV Park we were last night was fully booked for this night (57 km). We will have the wedding anniversary dinner sometimes in the next few days.
Today we traveled from Cedar City to Virgin (171 km). On the way, we visited two valleys of the Zion National Park. The first was the Kolob Canyon and the second the Kolob Terrace. At the end of the second valley was a reservoir on an altitude of 2475 m. There were a lot of trees in autumn colors as my picture shows.
